Mr Harry Collins, who was -for* some time a hotelkeeper at Greytown. died at Wellington a few days ago from paralysis. Miss Eva Booth left Carterton o.i> J Wednesday for Wellington, where sliei join s Miss Beatrice Price, and sails for Sydney and Melbourne to-day.. They will be absent for about a month, Mr W. H. Nelson has resigned his position as a member of the Woodville County Council, of which body he was chairman. The reason given for the resignation is pressure of business. We understand that Mr George Falla, who lias been stationmaster at Masterton for a number of years, lias received notice of his transfer to Invercargill, for which place lie will leave at an early date. The transfer means a distinct promotion, and Mr Ealla is to be congratulated cordingly. Mr Thomas Whitehouse, a very old settler in Wellington, died at his > •residence yesterday morning. Mr ■ , Whitehouse, who was seventy-six years of age. was born in Birmingham, and came to New Zealand with his parents in the ship Lord Bentinck in 1841. He leaves a family of three sons and three daughters. The many friends of Mr and Mrs James 'Pulloch, of Paliiatua, will deeplv regret to learn of the death of their youngest daughter, Miss Helena. Hume Tulloch, which occurred at an early hour at a private hospital in Wellington yesterday morning. The deceased young lady, who was aged 23 years, underwent an operation or Monday, from which she never rallied. "She passed peacefully away m | the presence of all the members «€ the family.
