RIFLE SHOOTING.
THE TREXTHAM MEETING. (By Telegraph. — l'rcss Association.) TRENTHAM, Last Night. Shooting at Trontham started at S o'clock this morning, with the final stage, of the Nelson Match (900 yds), the first stage (800 yds) .having been completed on the previous afternoon. To-day, as yesterday, shooting was at times very much affected by a .stiff, varying breeze. The light at the opening was soft, sombre clouds obscuring the sun for a time. Later, a bright sun prevailed. The baffling character of the wind during the at ternoon made it difficult for many of the riflemen to get on to the bull'seye, though in a few instances some excellent shooting wa,s done. At the 900 yds range, Carter, of Nelson, wa« tho only scorer of a possible, though his shorter range, score .discounted his match total. He only scored 3S at 800 yds. The nearest approach to the possible for both ranges was 93. and this total secured first, second and third prizes respectively for H. Oheeseman (Tuamarina), Bruce (New Plymouth) and McMurray (Te Awamutu). Garter's possible was a remarkable piece of shooting, though ho had the advantage of the soft morning light.
