TRENTHAM, Last Night, Gusty, variable winds, and a brilliant sun, to-uay, caused the fifth day's (snooting at the IrentJiam Championship meeting to be cf a most erratic, character. The iirst match completed was the Wellington Match, at 500 ami (500 yards. Here somo of the Dominion's best ljiarksrnen met with disaster. 'Duncan, the Millerton ex-champion, eairio back Jromi the 500 yds range with a possible of 50; but lie could only aggregate S3. Fogerty, a tyro from Dunedin, put ! on 50 at 500 yds, and missed the target altogether with his last two shots at GOOvds. The scores in the Canterbury match ranged from 5) to 47, and over 80 per cent, of tlio competitors failed to reach a total of more than 39. The Standard Ti\st Match was concluded to-day, having been extended over three days. This.match was both instructive and interesting, and was carried out under the direction ■of Captain Wallingforcl, who was somewhat of a revelation to many of the new-comers. This match was a complete success and was the most popular of all the service matches with the competitors. The match included snap-shooting, application, grouping, and rapid-firing. Canterbury Match, 10 .shots at GOO yards.—Simpson (Rangitikei) 47, £5 ; James (Okawa) ami Mcintosh (Otago) each 45, £4'; Chirnsido (Tvarori), McIvor (Te' Awamutu) and Yeo (Auckland) each 41, £3; Welch (Opaki), Monk (Ngatiawa), Smith (Okawa) and Hudson. (Pahnerston North) each -13, £2. Standard Test Service Match, at various targets at from 100 to 500 yds (possible points 110). —Rflmn.
