LADIES' SWIMMING CLUB

SIXTH ANNUAL CARNIVAL. Officials. —Supervisor, Mrs J. W. Blackmail. Judges: Messrs «T. F. Atkins and T. Shields. Starter: Mr A. j). Gillies. Secretary: Mrs N. H. James. Tho sixth annual carnival in connection with the 'Masterton Ladies' Swimming Club was held iu the Dixon street baths on Thursday afternoon, and proved an unqualified success. The weather was all that could be desired, and the attendance was veiy large, the seating capacity being taxI ed to its utmost. The whole of tho events were well contested, and some of the finishes wero very close. A strong contingent was present from Wellington, and appropriated a number of events. Tho Eridge Gup was won by Miss B. McGregor, with Miss E. O'Leary second and Miss M. Wnddington third. Both »he 75.vcis Championship and the 50yds Championship wero won by Miss O. Arthur, of Wellington, who swam remarkably well. In an interval, ail exhibition o r fancy swimming was given by Mr T. Shields, ,of Wellington. The proceedings were enlivened by music rendered by Mr McKonxie's orchestra, and afternoon tea. was provided by the ladies. . The whole of the arrangements were very complete, and the • secretary (Mrs iN. H. James) deserves the utmost credit for the success which attended the gathering.
