HORTICULTURAL SHOW
GOOD ENTRIES. The list of entries for the Masterton Horticultural and Industrial Show, to be held to-morrow, is now complete, and -shows a eon'siderablo increasp on former years. The entries total 582 —pot plants 59, cut flowers 1-11, decorative 3!), fruit 67, vegetables -1-1, home industries 33. fancy work (55. In th<> amateur classes there are. 85 entries in cut ilowers. 21 in fruit, and 25 in vegetables. In addition there will be many entries .sent in for exhibition only. With such a <-pler.d.id lot of entries we may look forward to an exceptionally interesting show. It is very gratifying to know that there will be keen competition throughout. In pot plants, bigonias (single, double and rex) there, arc in all 12 entries, and they will make a very fine display. There are G entries in colons. 6 in foliage, plants and 7 in ferns. Gloxinias always make a- rich show, and as there are 5 entries, the eontest will be keen. There are -1 entries in hanging baskets of ferns or flowers, and no less than -t collections of pot plants. There will be competition in every section of tjiis class excent in two.
Tn class 2. cut-flowers, asters will lie the main feature, therp bei.ig no fewer than 2D entries in the five sections under this he ; :;T. }?.veet oeas will make a fine showing, -with 1? competing, and roses have brought forward 20 competitors. In th" general collection of cut flowers the entries number 7, confined, to 12 distinct varieties. Dahlias ard phloxes will also help the general display. The decorative class will have good competition in bouquets and floral designs, but the chief interest will centre in the decorated tables. In the open section there are 7 competitors, and in the section for those who hav?» never won a first prize for decnrattxl tables, there are -I entries.
hi fruit, apples command 18 entries, and there is good competition n all lines in stone fruit.
There are good entries in vegetable.?, but the season has not been favourable for this class, and, competition is somewhat limited.
Home industries and fancy work, as usual, show the interest that is taken in this deseriotion of work, andthe public will not be disappointed with the exhibits. The amateur class in cut flowers will make a great display in dahlias, alters, sweet pens, and collection of flowers, in the latter section therp be•ing nr less than 7 entries. In ffnit. apples are the chief line, there being no fewer than 12 entries in the two sections. Tn vegetables there will b? a good display with close competition-
