The Education Department has announced that while I'reo and compulsory education is impracticable, it hopes shortly to provide schools for double the present 'number of primary schools, while .free education ivill !>e given to those who are unable to afford to pay fees. A great effort is to be made -with regard to girls' education, especially in the direction of hygiene. Ifc is proposed to have an affiliated University in each of the leading provinces.

Aii appeal is beinmade to wealthy Tndia-ns to support the Government's scheme.
