Mr Alfred Matthews lias been re--elected chairman of the South WairaTapa River Board. Mr and Mrs W. J. Douglas left Hastings) on Saturday, en route for the Old Country. The Rev D. J. Murray, of Dunedin, who was for some years in charge of tlie local Methodist circuit, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday. Mr S. 'Priest has been elected chairman, and Mr F. Wise secretary, ot the newly-formed Bush Districts Cheese Factories' Association. In the final reading of stations at the Methodist Conference in Wellington, the Rev S. J. Serpell and a home missionary were appointed to Masterton, the Rev A. Hopper to South Wai-,-arapa, the Rev C. H. Standage to Carterton, the Rev A. Mcßean to Eketahuna, and the Rev R. Richards to Pahiatua. At the meeting of the Wairarapa Amateur Swimming Club last night, it was decided to write Miss Annie O'Leary, a member of the Masterton Ladies' Swimming Club,, congratulating he r upon winning the 100 yards Ladies' Championship of New Zealand in record time. Mr T. T. Denbee, who has for some time been, accountant for the Masterton Farmers' Implement Company, was last night selected from the applicant® to succeed Mr H. F. Green as accountant to the Masterton Borough Council. Messrs P. Dr Sprott, Bishop of Wellington, who has been conducting confirmation .services in tlie Pongaroa district, returned to Wellington yesterday. The death is announced from Wellington of Mr D. J. Kenny, a well known "publican, and .father of Mr Dave Kenny, who has been a frequent contributor at concerts held in Masterton. The London Gazette of November 12th, 1912, announces that LieutColonel (local Colonel) Edward S. Heard is to be colonel, dated Octoher 4th, 1911, and to be a general staff officer, first grade, while employed as Chief of the General Staff of the Dominion of New Zealand. Dated August 30th, 1912." The news reached Woodville on Thursday that M~ James Holder (who went on a trip round the world about six months ago) died in Germany last November. The deceased was the ■eldest son of the late Mr R. H; Holder, who owned Riverside Estate some years ago.
