THE TOWN HALL INCIDENT

The incident at the Maaterton Town Hall on Saturday night should serve, as a warning to theatre-goers against raising an alarm of "fire" without ample excuse. The panic which occurred might quite conceivably have terminated with loss of life. As it was, a. number of women became terrified and tainted, whilst others screamed iii their plight. From what can be gathered, there- was absolutely no cause for the alarm, which could only have been given by an inebriated person, or ono possessed of no sense of responsibility or respect for life and limb. A person who creates a needless panic deserves to be dealt with in an exemplary manner by a. Court of law.
