(>Y Kit SEER'S REPORT. | The following is the Crnmty Overseer's report presented at tho last meeting of the Akiitio County Conn- i cil: I bejr to report for the month of January as follows : ( 1. Contract No. 174 Akaroa. Re extras on tihiis contract, same are now complete and payment passed. The Aerial used for this work has been stopped for a week on account of u breakage to the terminal shaft. Re--1 pairs have been effected and tho plant is again in good working order, and the whole contract proceeding satisfactorily. 2. Contract No. 181, Makuri-Pon-garoa Road. —This contract :s now completed to my satisfaction, and the portion of this road at Mangatiti Bridge being metalled bv day labour. 3. Contract No. 177, Rrmu Road.— Tliis contract is now completed and a ] verv satisfactory job has been made, j 1171 c. yards have been deposited. Ex. tras are being done to my satisfaction. 4. Contract No. 186 Gienora Road.--The me tailing of this road is being pushed on with and 1 the first payment is authorised, viz. £75 15s. j 5. Aohanga Valley Road Metall- i ing.—As instructed T have- made ar- j rangements to carry out this work j and sanio will be started almost immediately. _ j ' I) Cmli'pft, Vo 1 sP. ,A 1.-it'r> River Road. (Waione) —Tho metall insr of this road now complete and' filial payment. viz. £SO is authorised. 7. Contract Xo. 103. Delivery of 1 Sugar Loaf Timber (and. Rings)—'l lie delivery of this timber from Robert's Gate to site has been completed and ( culverts are now being inserted. 8. Proposed Contracts Advertised. — Contracts for metalling Pongaroa-Mas-I terton Read Ncs. 189, 1,500 o. yards, i and No. 190 for 1.000 c. yards have i been advertised. Contract No. 191 for erection of Karaka. aerial plant. • Contract 'No. 188, Waiotiaki Bridge has also beeu advertised. 9. AVaibi Ri : ding.—The Waihi, Towai, North Range, Oporao, Waihi Falls, Waihi-Akitio and Akitio River Road have been satisfactorily graded. Tho other grader which has been idle for some time has again .started as I have, in. accordance with instructions, procured two heavy horses from Loiig- ' burn!. 10'. Culverts in connection with , Martin's Contracts. —These culverts have-been attended to. I 11. Longford Approach. —Formation of Longford Approach has now been completed'. The grader will be at "Waiotiaki and Aohanga Valley Road-with-in a fer\v days. < 12. Culvert Timber for Gienora. — Timber ordered in excess of require- ( ments for Gienora, Road has been reduced. Carting of timber will be proceeded with at once and culverts inserted out of loan moneys. 13. Waikereru Road. —This road has been inspected. The metal, at Waiker- | era is not sufficient to warrant using , the Crushing Plaint the same applies to the Waiwaka, End. The road will require widening in several parts be- , fore the metal could be deposited. ! Chain age of road —from platform ) bridge to Erickson's 50 chains. Sorenson's to Waiwaka bridge 75 chains. ' 14. Waiwaka Road. —There are a large number of slips on this road on j lower portion of road. The creek near I Beelshaw's requires briding also creek opposite Erickson's Section. I—3oft.1 —30ft. I platform bridge I—ls ft. span would | , be required. The road above Larson's, ' open for horse traffic only. 15. Wailhoki Road.—Have .had over- . hanging scrub cut. Approach to | bridge at Liverton's lias been attended' to and a 3ft.x3ft. culvert is now required fronting Robbies. The temporary repairs to crossing are unsafe. (Thiis work was authorised.) 16. Grants.—As requested by the County Clerk will- at once forward locality plan and specification to P.W.- . I). W'gtn. re Pongaroa-Mastei'ton j' Grant near Masterton boundary. The J Inspector of P.W. 'has intimated that I on the 7th inst. the following Grant j claims have been approved and for- j warded to Wellington : —Sugar Loaf £BS 4s 6d ; Rirnu (Bal) £l9 12,s lid; Makuri-Pongaroa- (Ist Claim) £9l 8s Id. The Clerk is now forwarding the ' final claim re Makuri-Pongaroa Road j viz. £IOB 13s 4d a,s this work will pass Government inspection. As instructj ed the Waioakura Slips have not been removed and consequently the Government have not remitted the balance of Grant viz. £l2O 10s, 17. Metalling near Billingtons-Pon-garoa-Waione.—The obtainance of metal for this road from t'he Old . Homestead is quite out of the question as the price would be prohibitive at tho present time. | 18, Miscellaneous.—T have not overlooked the estimate re pipes; the rural Postal Boxes have been attended to; the Clerk submits correspondence re Karaka. Aerial Plant recently purohas- I ed. Would recommend that tflie 3£-in. rope (Akaroa) be used for Karaka and Mr Pickett was absent when I paid a visit to his road. Hardwood timber , being hard to obtain, and in view of price have ordered'totara as this work is urgent. Before acceptance of tend-' I ers provision should be anado re Govj ernment Authority and procuring bal'anoe of plant for Karaka Aerial."
