ENGINEER'S REPORT. Tin, following: is tlio monthly report of tin' engineer, presented fit tko monthly meeting of tho Masterton County Council yesterday afternoon : Opa'ki Killing. —Matahiwi Road. Acting upon tlu> chairman's direction I have had the Council's stall' em ployed in widening a dangerously narrow part of the above road in the vicinity of the old M-hool site (the work being contem))lated for some time). .1 he widening being in lilting, the matenat j-eqliiretT was taken from the most, prominent points—thus making the road safer for motor trallic. During tho progress o! the work, it wus found two culverts were in a state of collapse, which 1 had replaced with concrete pipes. To W'hiti Riding.—'Weraiti Fernvliurst. Road. Contract No. 2 7(i : He-, livered 050 cubic yards of metal. A small portion of the contract- was unfinished when the wet season came on. The contractors are now proceeding to finish the work. Masterton Waimate Road: As directed. I have Inul tho work of improving the acute point at the foot of t)t::!nia Mill finished, and also an old culvert reinstated with concrotr> pipes. Rangituir.au Riding.—Surface ream irs arc necessary on the "Dorseis, Rrtkaamu. Wangaehu and the Waingawn to Camp roads, Wainuioni Hiding.—■Masterlon-'W ai- i mata Road. Contract -No. 228: Delivering L7SO cubic yards metal. The contractor lias made rather slow progress during the past ■month. He, however, intends increasing his teams ; from throe, to five, when better progress should be expected. Blairtogie-Kast Coast Road. —The drays employed at surface repairs have completed the Car-swells' end of the road, and camp lias now been shifted to the Langdale Junction, and ecting from t-'ho Blairlogie Creek co-inmencpd. Upper- Taueru Hiding.—AVaircro Road. Contract No. 289. Reforming 1] .V chains of road and constructing a concrete culvert: Tho work has been finished by the contractor am! is now on maintenance. T have taken levels for the. proposed deviation on Mile 13, Wrigley's Flat. and T purpose carrying out the work by clay labour. Alfredton Riding._—Tiranmea to Waitawh.iti .Road : I have made the necessary engineering survey of three miles 27 chains to tho Waitawhiti boundary and the plans are in course of progress. Utewai lload. (G. Gt-.) Contract' No. 286. 23 chains of niei tailing: The contractor reports that j his work will bo completed towards tho ' end of this week. Alfredton-Weber Road. Contract Xo. 287. Delivering 950 cubic yards of metal: The contrac'tor lias delivered some 500 cubic yards of his contract, thus about completing Bonsteads to tlie foot of Crownan's Hill length. Alfredton Township: While on the ground I arranged with tho contractor 'to cart metal for the improvement of a 6-chain length of road and footpath in the vicinity of tho Post Office. Saun-der's Read. Contract No. 285. Forming 87 chains of Oft bridle track: The contractor-re-ports that he is making fair progress with the work. Surface repairs havo been made to Barton's Line and Manga t-nka to .roads. Castle Hill Road: Repairs .are being effected' to the- eastern end of the above road.
