FIXTURES. Feb. 12.—Hotorua J.C. Annual. Feb. 12 and 13—Taranaki J.C. Autumn. Feb. 13 and ll—Gisburne it.C. Summer. Feb. 19 and 20 —Woodville District J.C. Autumn. Feb. 1!), 20, 22. Dunedin J.C. Feb. 21, 22.—South Auckland K-.C Feb. 27 and .March I—Wuuganui J.C. Autumn. March 12 and 13—Nelson J. C There will be three race meetings in the North Island this week. Tlio Taranaki Jockey Club's meeting takes place at New Plymouth on Wednesday and Thursday, the Gisborno , Club's meeting at Gisborne on Thursday and Friday, and the .Rotorua Jockey Club's annual meeting at .Rotorua on Wednesday. Acceptances for the Woodville meet\\\<s close on Thursday evening. Weights for minor events to be run .on the first day of the Wangauui Cup meeting are due on Saturday. Los Angelos and Hon Ton have been withdrawn from all engagements at the Wangauui Meeting.
.Dearest is likely to .start favourite fai- the Taranaki Cup. It will bo remembered that the Sou It mare raced unsuccessfully at Egmont and New Plymouth, last season and coming on to Wangauui afterwards was beaten by a narrow margin in the Wangauui Cup. .Sinapis has been nominated for the Kelson Cup. It will bo interesting to note what weight she will be asked to carry. The punting fraternity wore badly "bitten" over the defeat of Distinction at Hawera lasb week'. The opinion was freely expressed that lie had but to stand np to win. The '•goodthing" was not even placed. Los Angelos has again been placed at tho top of the list in the .Dunedin Cup. His withdrawal from the event in question will not come as a surprise. If Bronze makes the trip to Dunedin, she won't want .for support. With Sst olb to sarry, the bay mare would only require to be herself to take lots of beating. Seatoudale 9st. is top weight in tho Woodville. Handicap. At the same meeting last year he was carrying minimum weights. The form .showed by Alccto at Palmerston must have considerably impressed ha.ndica.ppor Henry's as she has boon allotted 5.6 in the County Hack, six furlongs. Alecto has won ono race, while Sylvia May has much better from her credit, and figures at a pound less in the same event. Ascalon (8.12) is nicely treated: in the President's Handicap at Woodville.
Tho Stipendiary Stewards were inn eh in evidence at the Egmont meeting, and held several enquiries. F. Kelly, an inexperienced rider, was disqualified for one year for allegedly not doing his best to win the hurdle race on Bercola. W. Young, an experienced rider, for being caught napping, was_ warned, [fc is difficult for tho man in the street to figure out the reasonings even 'of stipendiary stewards.
_ Sir Lethe is in wjork again at Clareville and may bo given a run in the hack hurdles at . Woodville, The Lethe gelding has benefitted by his spell, and. looks big and robust Full Bate has been allotted iO.l in the hack hurdles at Woodville, and if lie is jumping as well as reports give him credit for,' lie should make things merry for tho opposition. Over Rate is standing up to his work well at Opaki, and will bo competing in hack events at Woodville. Sir Solo is being worked the wrong way round at Opaki, in view of his northern engagements at Easter. Tho Wellington Cup winner looks very well and all going well should pay his way at the Auckland fixture. Killaloo, who raced rather disappointingly at Tauherenikau, is moving along nicely and looks a much improved horse. He will probably be taken through to the Dannevirke meeting. W. H. McKay, who some time ago gavo up farming to take to the pig %kin. has' taken over tho lease of tho Tauherenikau Hotel. It is presumed he will still do some riding when occasion, offers. A Hastings telegram states that Mr E. J. Watt has cabled from Melboir | contradicting the report that Mid- I night Sun was an unlikely .starter in ' tho Australian Cup, and states that tho horse is a sure .starter providing nothing goes urnis.s with !hiin in the' meantime. Sanguinarv has been scratched for the Flying Handicap at tho Wanganui Cun meeting.
