(By Telegraph. — Tress Association.) CHRLSTCHURCH, Last Night. There way an unforsocn and 1 unpleasant ending to a picnic, of the employees of Weeks, Limited. to (Rangiora. on Saturday. As a result of partaking either of pressed beef or tinned tongues, about twenty-six out of one hundred of those attending the picnic are suffering from the effects of ptomaine poisoning. Some 'doubt exists as to whether the poisoning is duo to the meats mentioned, or to some ingredient of the salad dressing. Some of those who ate the pressed beef and tinned tongues were not affected. One .person became so ill that he had to be :left at Rangiora, and one railway carriage wa?i set apart for the other sufferers, all of whom were sick on the journey from Rangioia to imvn. It is stated that ten cases are considered somewhat serious, though the major(ity were reported this afternoon to be progressing favourably.
