Tho death occurred at Hamilton on Friday ilast of Mr William Loved ay, a former settlor of Woodville, and a well known rifle shot. Constable Doyle, who died as a result of injuries received 1 at Shannon, was buried yesterday afternoon at Southbridge, where his relatives reside.
A Sydney cable states that Mr W. B. Miller, of (Jisborne, has been appointed manager of the theatres of tho Greater D. Williams' Company. Dr. James Garfield Mitchell, of the Dunedin Hospital, has accepted! the position of house surgeon of the Gisborne Hospital, and will take up his dailies on February loth. Mr W. Graham, of the Agricultural Department, has been appointed judge of dairy produce at the ..Masterton show. He will arrive in town on tho morning of the 18th inst. The Methodist Conference decided on Friday last to send a letter of greeting to Mr James Gordon, of Masterton, a .supernumerary who was unable to bo present. Dr and Mrs 'Johnson, of Martinborough, leave in a. week or two for Australia, en route for the Old Conntry, where they intend making a prolonged stay. Tho residents of Rakaunui tendered a farewell social to Mr Stanley Sopor in the Rakaunui Hall on Friday evening. Mr Sopor, who has been manager of the Rakaunui store for tho past three years, was presented with a solid leather suit case, and is now going to the South fsland.
