MINING NOTES
THE WORKSOP DREDGE. BRIGHT PROSPF.CTS. The phenomenal return of 2160zs for the iast week from tin l - Worksop dredge has boon the chief topic of conversation among the Masticirton shareholders who are fortunate anough to hold .shares in the company. We are indebted to Mr J. Hessey for a perusal of a report from the manager of the dredge, which should be of interest to mining; enthusiasts. The report states that tlie. return was won from half tho cut on the road end. ami that there is every indication that there is splendid gold under the road for chains back. Tenders are being called for three blocks of bush clearing across the road, running back to where Antonio's Creek goes into the river. fn one block of 4 or 5 acres, lower down the river, bores were put down to prove the ground, and the results so far arc very encouraging, the. wash carrying nice little prospects at every draw of the pump. The dredge is working very well. VICTORIA RAXGE. The manager reports having driven 86ft 'Since the holidays, and good progress is being made with tho threes hii'ty. Good leaders are being cut all the way. success' DREDGE. I The Success dredge, which, has been hung up through the unfortunate breaking of the top tumbler, will soonbe under way again. The manager has received advice, that the new tumbler has been shipped to tho dredge. The manager's report states:—"! regret to say that the wash on the western .section has cut out altoDuring the week -for a short time, wo were on a small patch' on the west of the section which I thought would increase, in extent, but it bay cut out completely, am! the bottom ,which was becoming deeper, has risen again, and is now 18 foot for ihe full width of the section. The bottom is of smooth coal, and appears to have been swept clean of wash. The groti-id from top to bottom consists entirely of clay, with a few stone.M arid gravel through it in places. Until 1 got further advice, from you I have discarded the whole*-cf the western section, with the exception of half a chain at the junction of the two sections, which contains a little wash, and which will be worked up to t-li<■ lino of tho fasten) section 'in about two days. when we. will be able to dredge it. and the pastern section in one face."
