THE WATER SUPPLY.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —When reading the report oF the Council meeting in Wednesday's piper, I was struck with some of thet arguments put forth against an expert's opinion of our water supply for fire-fighting purposes. Evidently in the opinion of one councillor wet have had no serious fire since w.e had a water supply, and therefore apparently we may rest assured that wo never will have one. The same councillor stated that we have a concentration scheme which could be put: in force in case of need. I wouH suggest that the Fire Brigade be asked to give a demonstration with alf vheir available water pressure of what tliey can do to protect life anil property in case of a serious fire breaking out in dry weather. ■ If thev prove that they art* quite prepared to cope with sucli .'in emergency, then the public will rest assured, thnfeve.ry,thing will be done to protect life and property should it be needed. —E am, etc., NERVOUS. Ma star ton, February 3, 1913.
