WHEN IS A BUTCHER NOT A BUTCHER?
The question -of whether a pork butcher is a butcher within the meaniii' of tho Act regulating the hours 'f closing of shops was revived at the M.agis-trate'iS Court at Oamaru on Monday. Some time ago a pork butcher there was charged with failing'to close his shop at the appointed time, but iivf or motion was dismissed bv Mr T. Hutchison, S.M.. who upheld the contention that pork butchers were not bound by anv of the' restrictions relating to business hours applying to bntellers' shops. Tho Department had not accepted that decision as conclusive, and caused a fresh information to be laid against the sarnie person with a. view to an appeal to the Supreme Court. All the facts were admitted, and His Worship re-affirmed ! his .previous decision, dismissing the information, with costs 225, against the Department.
