BETTING TRANSACTION
PUBLICAN SUES PUBLICAN. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.} WELLINGTON, Last Night. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Patrick Griffin, hotelkeeper, of Wellington, sued Charles James King, hotelkeeper. of Napier, to recover £IOO and £2 9s interest. It was claimed that Griffin, in response to ft. telegram' from King,, invested far King £~xo on each of two horses .running on October ;28t,h a.t the Trentham races. Both horses lost, and Griffin, had not been paid the money. King, in his evidence, admitted that ho was morally responsible, but said he secured the investment of the money on Klvalf of another man,, and as soon as the latter paid him. he (King) would pay Griffin. Replying to counsel. King said he would plead the GamingAct as his defence. Finally, Griffin agreed to accept .a nonsuit, in. order to take a Supreme Court action to determine if he could legally recover the monev.
