OBITUARY

CON'S f ABLE CARMODY. •The death took place at 'pfrterten yesterday morning of Constable H. C. Oa-rmodv at the early age of 35 years. On Sunday week last he was seized with violent coughing, while on street duty, with the result that he broke a blood vessel in the lungs. He was assisted: to his home, where he _ has been confined to his bed ever -since, and despite the careful nursing by his wife, relations and friends, and skilful attention of his surgeon, passrd awnv as above stated. The . late Mr Curmodv had made many friends durinr.- his i : esidence in Carterton, a.nd was universally respected as-a good citizen and officer. (Born at \iremiki, in the* South Island, he entered the police force in 1900. After doing dutv in Wellington he was transferred to Cliristchurch, and from there he went to Hastings, doing mounted work. Later he was transferred to Wellington on mounted work at Mount Cook station. After that he had charge of the Clyde Quay station, Wellington, and.from there he was transferred! to Carterton, where he has since resided. He had been in indifferent health tor the pa.vt three, years, having broke a blood vessel when on duty then.- Deceased was married at Napier .some six years ago, to Miss Reidy, of that town; and leaves a widow and family of four children, the oldest being five years, and the youngest four months. In addition to being senior constable in Carterton, deceased was also Clerk of the Court, and Inspector qf Factories. His father is in the police force stationed at Whangaroa, and; he also-has. -three.,brothers- and two sisters. They are:—Mr D. Car--mody. Inspector of .Factories at\Wellington ; John, of Invercargill, livery s-tablekeeper; and.Baniel, in.-railway goods shed at Auckland. His sisters are Mrs Esplim, of (.iishorhe. and ■Mrs Stowie, of Timaru. The funeral will take nlace at Napier on Sunday.As a mark of respect to deceased, the Magistrate's Court adjourned! for half an hour yesterday, the Magistrate, Mr L. G. Beid, S.M., making feeling reference to the deceased officer.
