Mr J5. Page, S.M., who ha-, been doing relieving duty at Greymouth, has left for Taihape, to vrhich place h«> lias been appointed. A very old resident of Napier, in the person of Mr J. Martin died at his residence on Monday. Deceased, who was 80 years of age, arrived- in the Dominion over fifty years ago. Mr Robbie (Pahiatua manager for Messrs T. Horton and Co.), with Mrs Robbie, ist at present spending a holiday in Masterton. Sir Cecil Moon, Bart., who was a passenger from London by the Corinthio, proposes to reside in New Zealand.
A Melbourne cable message received last night, announced the death of Mr Arthur Windsor, formerly editor of the Age and Argus newspapers.
The sudden death occurred at Napier on Monday of Mr Edwa.rd L. Smith, a well-known, builder and contractor. Ho was fifty-two years of age, and leaves a widow and four daughters. Mr Robert Scott, of the firm of Messrs. J. and R. Scott, of . Dunedin, who. gallantly rescued a boy from afive at Marton recently, has been presented witto a. gold watch and chain by the grateful father of the iad. The list of Junior Civil Servic:© passes for 1912 include Misses Nessi© and Agnes' Monerieff: Elizabeth K. McDonald, all of Carterton, and' Master Edgar G. R. Thomas, of Greytown.
Mr T. George, <.f Carterton., who met with a serious accident at the Kahutafa sawmill on Saturday, passed a good night on Monday night, btit is still in a critical condition.
