THE CHARGE ON BENZINE The question of railway freights was introduced at the meeting of the Masterton Chamber of Commerce yesterday by Mr G. C. Summerell, who stated that his attention had been specially drawn to the fact that tlio charge on benzine wag 2s 2d per ease, or double rates, and that it was carried at the owners' risks. Mr Summerell pointed out that benzine was largely used in agricultural purs aits, particularly in the driving of milking machines. Kerosene was carried at rate and a-half. The President stated that the matup some years ago, but nothing was ter of railway rates had l>een brought done. He thought there was room for improvement. •On the motion of Mr Summerell, a sub-committee consisting of Mc c Daniell. Spain, Donald, Perry, Caselberg and tlio mover was set up to inquire into the matter and report.
