BOOKS THAT DISAPPEARED.

At the Putumayo scandal enquiry, Mr Gubbins, the chairman of the .Peruvian Amazon Company, was recalled. He admitted that the company's account hooks prior to 1910 had'disappenred, but .said he was unable to account, for their disappearance.

DISCOVERED AFTER A LAPSE OF

Raphael's picture, "Madonna Delia QueTcia," which was lost for a. century, was discovered in an Jtalia.n. nobleman's chapel and smuggled to London. It is now at the Hotel Cecil, and is being guarded by four detectives.
