A NOVEL POSITION

While the dispute between the * slaughtermen and the freezing compnnies is unchanged fo,r all practical purposes, n peculiar position lias arisen with the Union on the one hand and the Labour Department on th" other. Though six weeks notice tr cancel lapsed yesterday, the cancellation of the Federation under th" Arbitration Actli as not been granted and if it is not granted, before the agreement binding the men and tilr companies expires on the 17th ' those striking will lie liable to tb penalties of the Act. The secretary of t-be Union informed a Post reporter that the Department was not r'tis- | fi<->d that the majority of the men in this district desired cancellation he stronglv contends that the Unio" is entitled to cancellation,' Tf tlie De- ' partment felt that it had! not receiv- j ed sufficient proof of the men's de- | sire«, the proper time to make ir>- j quiries was during the six weeks o r j the notice. The Labour Derailment J explains that in every caste before •" union finally cancels registration it must comply with the- provisions r*f ■ ■section 21, subsection A of the Amppded Act. and stated that inquiries would be completed within two or three days.
