SHIPBUILDING
BRITISH AND OTHER FIGURES. Received Januarv 9. 9.35 a.m.) LONDON. January 8. Five hundred and forty-two merchantmen, of a tonnage of 1,970.065 tons, were building in the United Kingdom on 31st December, compared with four hundred and sixty-three vessels, of 1,368,671 tonnage, throughout the rest of the world, A great shortage of skilled labour in the northern shipyards is causing the refusal of some orders.
