PROBLEM OF THE SEXES.
The Australian Association for tho Advancement of Science will confer an everlasting boon on society if it caji discover a method for checking <tho assimilation by the sexes of habits of free and unrestricted social intercourse. It is admitted that there is lacking in the boyvS of to-day that chivalrous respect for girls that characterised the youth of -half a century age Bnt, by the same token, tho girl of to-day does not possess the feminine reserve and modesty that was characteristic of her forbears. In the process of evolution the sexes are drifting from the paths of orthodoxy. Women to-day claim the same rights and privileges as men. They occupy position which at one, time they would have despised. They enter into public life and practice in the professions. They join in outdoor sports and games which wem once reserved for the. sterner sex. In all things they strive to emulate +he example set bv more man. And. if they lose their identity, and with it the respect of men. who have they to blame but themselves?
