The Withdrawal of Midnight Sun and Ventura does not come as a great surprise, as Mr F, J. Watt lias for some time stated' his intention of sending a team to Australia. Sir Knox has come into the market for the Wellington Cup, and Mr Nee's colt is likely to see a much shorter price than he is at present quoted at. At the same time, it should be remembered that the Sir Laddo horse likes the ground on the soft side, and during the past fewdays he has been showing some signs of soreness, which may put him back in his work. Otter and Over Rate will, all beincy well, accompany Sir Knox to '.Trentham. The latter will figure in the Selling Races, while Otter will be given another chance to distinguish himself in hack events. A rider has so far not been engaged to ride Sir Knox, but it is, probable that either L. Wilson or¥. Ryan will 1 have the mount. Sir Solo, another Cup candidate, contracted a chill after the Manawatu meeting, but is all right again, and hitting out freely in his work. E. Lowe will probably have the mount on Sir Solo in bis Trentham ongagei mente.
The locally-trained Bally Shannon, and Operation are engaged at tho Foxton meeting. Both are doing satisfactory track work, and should pay their way on the other coast. Killaloo will not be taken to Trentham, but may be started at some »f the meetings next month. The Kilcheran gelding looks well since running at Tauherenikau, and with a- little "more racing should got on the winning list.
Imagination, Distinction and Exertion are going along the right way at Rototawai, and this trio should give a. good account of themselves at Trentham. The former will probably he started in the shorter race, in which she is nicely handicapped. Distinction and Exertion will compete in. hack company. The trio will be ridden by H. Lowe, who rode the two former at Tauherenikau. The southern horses which competed at the, Auckland meeting were shipped south on Monday, and are reported to havo stood the trip well. Peg has been scratched for the Ruapehu Handicap, to be decided on. the first day of tho Trentham meeting. D. Deeley, who met with' a sbsxht injury during fhje Auckland idip meeting, is quite recovered, and tho crack horseman will bo in the saddle at Trentham.
Acceptances for the first day's events at the Trentham and Foxton fixtures close on Monday next.
