DROWNING FATALITIES
IN MASTERTQN PARK LAKE. A «ad drowning fatality occurred in the Mastertan Park Lake shortly after one o'clock yesterday afternoon, when William Sinclair, the nine-year-old son of Mr and Mrs "Williams Sinclair, of Lincoln road, lost his life. The deceased, in company with two other boys named Noel and William Andrew left his home about 12.30 o'clock with the intention of bathing in the lake. After undressing, the deceased- dived into t)>e de«p water, and mvam - about for- some minutes. He then siijowed signs cf distress, and after splashing about for a time, he sank. His companions, neither of whom could swim sufficiently to go to ! his rescije, became alarmed when be 1 sank for a third time and did not rise. | A lad named Groombridge hurriedl off to the police station and reported the occurrence. "A party soon arrived at ' the lake, including the lad's father. | Several diyed into the water, and. the ,body was recovered by Leslie Kyle and brought to the surface. Life was by this time apparently extinct, the body having been at the bottom on the lake, for between twenty minutes and half an hour. Artificial respiration was employed with a view to restoring animation, but this was unsuccessful. T)r Archer Hosking was summoned, but pronounced life to be j extinct. The body was removed to i the house of the parents, where an inquest will be held to-day at 10 o'clock jby Mr J. T. M. Hornsby, District I Coroner.

(By 'Telegraph —Press Association.) A UCKL AND, Last Night. A sad drowning fatality occurred at Henderson to-day, resulting in the •death of Sarah Wright, wffe of W. H. Wright, farmer, and of Miss Reine Parkinson, a young girl of fourteen. A party were out bathing in Henderson. Creek, when Miss Harrie got into difficulties. Another of the party succeeded in pulling her out. Wiiile this was happening 'Miss Parkinson slipped, off a shelving, or lodge, over the slippery rocks, into a deep hole. Apparently 'Mrs Wright tried to "rescue her, hut also fell imto the hole. An alarm was given, but Mrs Wright ■was pulled out, but the unfortunate woman was then dead. Miss Parkinson was not recovered. AUCKLAND, Last Night. A man named Charles Smith, aged 36, was drowned onv the beach near Waimauku to-day. No particulars are available. NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. Harold Hir?t, aged -sixteen years, a son of the local umnager of thn Hank of Australasia, a brilliant and popular Hirdi School boy, wa.s drowned to-day whilo bathing at a dangerous- place on the Mokau •beach. He wa.s away with schoolmates on a walking tour. He had been warned not to bathe at the place. A second hey \vs.a otiJy rescued with difficulty.
