Sir George Rcid, Commonwealth High Commissioner, who is at present touring the chief cities of the Continent, received an audience from the Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria. Sir George congratulated the Emperor on his long and illustrious reign, especially on his powerful influence : n guarding the world's peace. The Emperor requested Sir George to convey to the Australian Government a message of kindliness and in-' tere.st, and the assurance that while he lived he would work for the world's peace.
