MINISTERS ABROAD

TAURANGA, Last Night, The Hons. W. H. Herries and W. Eraser reached Tauranga at.noon today. They were met on arrival by the Mayor* and representative public men and farmers of the district. The' Ministers were accorded a public welcome, and met with an enthusiastic reception. Both delivered short addresses and were loudly cheered at the conclusion. To Mete Ran Ivawa, a prominent Maori chief, also welcomed Mr Herries and his colleague on behalf of the Native race, and presented Mr Hemes with an address. Mr Herries replied, and the 'Maoris signified their approval of his remarks by dancing a spirited haka. At one o'clock the Ministers were entertained; by the Mayor and Borough Council to a luncheon, at which about fifty prominent residents also sat down. The toast of the Hon. Herries and Eraser was n (riosed, and duly honoured:. Later in the afternoon they attended a garden party it: the Domain, where Mr Herries was presented with a testimonial from the people of Tauranga, as a souvenier of bis first visit to the district as a Minister, andi expressive cf hearty congratulations on his elevation to Cabinet rank. Subsequently a large number of deputations waited on the Ministers at the Coronation' Hall in reference to matters of local importance. This evening the Ministers were entertained at a complimentary banquet. They leave for To Puke to-morrow, via the railway from Maunganui. Tlvnicß thev intend proceeding to Whakatane, Opotiki and Rritorua.
