WELLINGTON, Last Night. The English tennis players met New Zealand in the third series of matches here to-day. The weather was line, but a high wind was blowing. The court was slow at the commencement of the match, but improved as the day 'progressed. The attendance was large, and included His Excellency the Governor who wais present with his suite.
Parke (England) met Ollivier (N.Z.) and had no difficulty in accounting for him. The local man had no chance ;n either hoat, the generalship of the Davis dip wiimer being too much for him. Ollivier made many mistakes, which made tho play of the visitor easy, much to the di.':appointment of the spectators-. Parke won his games (by 6 —2, 6—2.' The second game was betwoen Sw-msnon (N.Z.) and Dixon (England). Dixon, with his clever placing and work at the half court, took the game 4—l. His or/ponfint gave one more game and then Dixon wont out. The second set was a protracted struggl?, twenty-four games being played before a decision was arrived at. With H wo''games in the decUivo .«<•* Dixon had no difficulty in gaining the honours, in which he led by 2 —l, 3_X, .I_l, »—% Ty-~ 3, and set. In the doubles Beamish and Dixon OKngland) had no trouble in accounting for Fisher and Peacock (N.Z.). The \ow\ players put up a good struggle in the eighth, ninth and tenth games of the second set. In the firat set the visitors waltzed home. The match ended 6 —l, 6—4. Tn the singles Beamish beat Peacock. 6 —i. 6—l. Tlie final m.iitch of the day was between Fivlvr (N,Z,} .and, Lowe . (England).,. , This was a most Stubbornly fought game Lowe took the first set 6-r-3 4 but Ki sher, half-volleying and volleying w.tli great, precision, took-the.-second set. ■making them one all. In the third set the score stood at three all, and then Lowe took the la«t three games nvA s°t and the match. Tlie contest will be resumed at 1.30 o'clock tomorrow.
