LONDON, January 7.

Reshed Pasha handed the Allies a declaration to the effect that tlie cession of Adrianople was impossible from the standpoint of tho security of the Dardanelles and Constantinople. Turkey, he said, consented to abandon Crete on the express condition tiv-'t no other island was claimed.

The conference then adjourned for twem.y minutes.

Tho Allies replied that the declaration did uot meet with their demands. Tlu new proposal, they said, was not of a nature to lead to an agreement, aj.d they therefore were obliged to siiispend the conference.

Tho Turkish delegates protested that the suspension was irregular, stating that they desired to discuss tho position. They left the Palace in a perturbed and excited state.

In an interview, the Turkish delegates declared that the Allies had suspended the conference hoping that Adrianople would fall.in the interim.

The Daily News says that Italy is anxious to retain the islands she is now occupying, and if so the international scramble will begin. Austria, it sta-fces, is opposed to the Allies annexing any of the Aegean Islands.

Several newspapers question whether the Powers will be able to agree on a line of action. . ,
