SHOCKING FATALITY
YOUTH KILLED AT KONINI. THROWN FROM MILK CART. A shocking • accident occurred at Konini shortly before 8 o'clock this morning (says the Pahiatna Herald of Saturday), resulting in the death of Thomas' Donald McEarlane, the 13 year old son of Mr A. MeFarlane, chairman of director,s of the Ballance Cooperative Dairy Company. . From information rwvivd: from Constable Tanner, it appears that the unfortunate tad left home at about, 6.45 o'clock tin's morning to take . themilk supply from his father's farm to j the Kouini butter factory. He de- I livered the milk, and, obtaining tho return of skim milk, proceeded homeward:. He was standing up in themilk cart, and the reins became entangled in his feet before ht> left the factory yard. He was tugging at the reins, trying to free them from his., feet, when the axle box of the cart struck rvie of the gate posts. The result was that young MeFarlane was thrown, forward and fell under the cart. The wheel of the vehicle passed over the side of his head and neck,' killing him instantaneously. Dr. Pattison andi Consatble Tanner were quickly summoned to the scene of tho accident. The news of the sad fatalitv lias cast quite a gloom over the district.. The deceased hoy, although of a quiet disposition, was a favourite among his fellow playmates. The deepest sympathy of the residents ol the district is extended) to Mr and Mrs MeFarlane and family in their very sad bereavement which has so suddenly overtaken, them.
