I A TAXATION QUESTION. (By leievraph—i. ie*» a.uoc%at%i>n.) ) HAWERA, Last Night. I At a meeting of tho Taranaki ! Farmers' Provincial .Executive of the I Farmers' Union to-day proposal of the Bootmakers' Union that, instead of increased duty on boots and shoes, an export duty should be placed on hides, was discussed. A motion was carried, that the Executive is strongly'opposwi to any export duty being placed on hides or any other primary products. The Executive also considered the recent amendments to the Land Acts, and all members except one stated that the present system of land taxation was unsatisfactory. It was decided to refer the ; following resolution from the Opu--1 naki branch to tho Dominion Executive:—"That a-s the present system of valuing land for taxation purposes has proved a failure, owing to the impossibility of accurately separating improved, values, this conference considers a much fairer and much sin-der waywould be to tax on the annual value, with the same exemptions as capita] invested in other industries; the annual value to be o per cent of the capital value."
