George, of Wellington, who was responsible for the bringing of the South Melbourne team of cricketers to New Zealand, was a visitor to Masterton yesterday. Mr W. J. Geddis, of Napier, has been, offered, and has accepted, the {msition of Managing Director of the Now Zealand! Times Company, Ltd. Lord and Lady Liverpool were ac•corded a hearty welcome to Wellington yesterday. The Mayor read an address, and His Excellency made a •brief, but fitting reply. The Very Rev. Dean McKenna, of Masterton, sung a solemn requiem mass at the Bisilica of the Sacred Heart in Wellington, yesterday morning, in connection with the death of Father Venning, S.M. There were thirty-five priests present. The friends of Mrs C. Fosberg, of liauricoville, will regret to hear that •she was taken suddenly ill on Wednesday, and, on wie advice of Dr. Cowie, was removed to a private hospital in Masterton.
An Knox Church, Masterton, on Wednesday afternoon, a pretty wedding was celebrated, the contracting parties being Miss Elvira Stretch, •daughter of Mr Robert Stretch, of Masterton, and Mr "'Edward Jones, also of Masterton. The Rot. J. S. Youjig was the officiating clergyman, and a number of friends and relations were present. A reception was' afterwards held, the happy couple leaving in the afternoon on their honeymoon trip.
An interesting wedding was cole--hrated at St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, on Wednesday, when Mi- Percy Welch, only son of Mr and 'Mrs W.J. Welch, was married to Miss Alma Morgan. The Rev. H. Watson was ty -the officiating clergyman. The bride was given away by Mr J. Moncrieff, of Carterton, and was attended by the Misses Mabel Morgan and Connie -•""" as bridesmaids. Mr H. McKenzie was best man. and Mr A. L. | Morgan acted; as groomsman. In the dinner hour on Thursday, the 'employees of the Wellington Farmers' Meat Company assembled at the office at Taratahi to make a presentation to Mr J. Connell. chief clerk at | the works, who is_nbout to be married. M(* Hausriiann, chief "engineer, in a neat little speech, presented Mr Connell with a handsome silver tea and coffee service, and a French bedroom clock.
