LATE CRICKET
HAWKE GUP MATCH. j (By Telegraph- r r<-w s kmcwUoh.) I WANGANUI, Last Night. ! The first of the series of representative cricket matches for the Hawke Cup was commenced here to-day in fine weather, the competing teams being South Taranaki and Wanganui. The former batted first on a pefect ) wicket, but were quickly disposed of for 26. C. Holland and Cernan were unplayable, the former securing five wickets for fourteen, and Cernan four for seven. Wanganui occupied the wickets for 190 minutes, during which time they compiled tho fine score of 465. Orion contributed an admirable 147, batting superb strokes all round j the wicket. The- other principal j scoreTfi were: Bathgate 66, Butter- j worth 47, Furrie 37, Gernan 35, Hoi- | land 23, Howard 18, Tilyard 15, Bur- . nett 16 (not out), and Murchie 16. Only one batsman failed to reach 1 double figures. The match will be j concluded to-morrow. l
