BOROUGH COUNCIL
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of tho Masterton Borough Council was held in the Borough Chambers last evening, there, being present—His Worship the MaVor (Mr J. M. Coradine), and Crs H. J. O'Leary, J. Elliott, P. W. Temple, W. Praguell, J. P. Prentice, A. Donald, W.,Candy, J. C. Ewiftjs* ton and E. Flanagan; A communication was read from the Akitio County Council, in reference, to the proposed accident insurance scheme, and .stating) that as fresh legislation would be necessary for. tho establishment of a fund, it was decided that the scheme remain in abeyance for the present. An application to have a water supply extended to Vivian street, was left in the hands of the Borough engineer, a report to bo brought down at next meeting of the Council. A letter was received from the secrotary of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust, in connection with the widening of Dixon street. A communication was also received from the lessee of the section of land involved, and stating a price at which he was prepared to give up the land necessary for the purpose of widening tho street. It was decided that tho matter be inquired into, and brought up at a future meeting. A letter was received from the Inspector of Nuisances, complaining of loose horpps being driven through tho Borough streets, and so menacing public safety. It was, decided that the matter bo discussed when the revision of tho Borough bv-laws takes place. Tt was decided that applications be culled for the vacancy of jurnor clericshin in the Gan Department. The report of the manager of the Municipal Gas Works was read and adopted.
