LAND AGENTS
QUESTION OF REGISTRATION. <fli/ Teleoraph—rrm Atsoeioti<vn.) PAHIATUA, Last Night. An interesting position has arisen locally regarding the registration of land, agents under the Act passed List session. The Act comes into force on January Ist, and a number oi" land agents applied to the local Court to be registered under- it; but ~,) Iwnds have been given, as the forma, which are being prepared by. the Justice Department, have not yet or:me to hand. When the question was raised in the local Court to-day, the Magistrate (Mr L. G. Reid, S.M.) said that as the Act did not come into force until January Ist, he fail- • ed to see what jurisdiction the Court had. He thouglit it very improbable that the Department would prosecute if an agent wag not registered by January 2nd. He pointed out that there was apparently no provision for tp.k|ing applications !for registration before January Ist. The roll of registered agents wa-s made up to Jan- , uary 15th. He thought a mistake [ had been made in fixing it at that date for the first year, and thought it would have been better if the date br.d been made, say. February 15th. Tlik local lawyers emphasised the importance of the matter on behalf of [ the land agent*. At tho Magistrate's ; suggestion application will be made for registration at the first available P Court, probably Maßtertop, -after the holidays. ! i • ! ■ '- ■ ' I I ,
