HOMING CLUB
THE AUCKLAND RACE. The Auckland race for No. 2 birds, in connection with the Masterfon Homing Club, was flown on Saturday, an airline.distance of 286 miles. Owing to the unfavourable winds the birds were flying at a disadvantage, but managed to put up a fairly creditable performance, Mr Bowling's bird arriving home over half an .hour before the second bird. The places were as follows:W. Bowling's Splash, Bhr 35min, 1; J. Bixon's Effort. 9hr 7min, 2; G. Pember's White Flight, 9hr Rm-in, 3; W. Brake's Brilliant Boy, 9hr SOmin, 4 ; W. Gonrlay's Icicle, 9hr 22min, 5. This race finishes the No. 2 birds on the north road for the season. The next race will be flown on Saturday for the old bird championship. This year the Club are flying this race from Timaru, an increase of DO miles on previous- years, when a. very interesting race is anticipated.
