COUNTY COUNCIL

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Masterton County Council was held yesterday afternoon, there being present— Councillors W. J. Welch (chairman), C. C. Kebbell, Alex. Murray, H. J. Toogood, A. J. Percy and James Millc.\ Sir W. C. Bnohannu, M.P., forwarded a list of Government grants available fr>" expenditure within the County, and suggested that application be made for authority to expend tbo same. I Messr? H. Sea ran eke and E. Wadham directed attention to the bad condition of the Black Creek at Kaituna, and asked that something he done.—Dealt with by the engineer. The Assistant Under-Secretary of tho Public Works Department intimated that the Hinemoa to Alfredton road grant has been expended by tho Pahiatua County Council. The District Engineer enclosed a tracing of tlie Fernyhurst road deviation, containing consent for the Council's signature. Messrs Osmond Bros requested some repairs to the Wainuiomapu road. It was pointed out that the July slips had not been removed. —On the motion of Cr Miller j it was decided that immediate steps be taken by tho Engineer to remove the slips. The Public Works Department notified that certificates for the payment of the balance of the Homewood-Kai-whata grant, the Blairlogie to Homewood grant, the Alfredton to Tinui road grant, and the Kiriwhakapapa, road grant, had been issued. The Eketahuna County Council wrote, stating that it had come under it.g notice that the Masterton 'Council proposed to exempt a. certain class of goods from tho fx.-hcdnle under its heavy-traffic by-laws in the Alfredton Riding, and as that Council had relied in good faith on the Master-ton Council collecting heavy traffic fees in accordance with the agreement, some explanation was required, seeing that all traffic from the Alfredton Riding passed oveT several miles of. the Eketahuna roads.—Dealt with by Finance Oornmitte-e.

Mr W. H. Carlyle offered £l. for the right of cutting grass on the WeraitiBraoicepeth road. —Dealt with. The report of the'engineer was read and adopted. On the motion of Cr Percy, it was decided that, the engineer perform tlte road work in the To Wliiti Riding requested by Mr Robinson.
