PUBLIC INQUIRY DEMANDED

(Received December 9 8.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, December U. Mr Syd Gregory, captain of the Australian team, has declined to discuss the allegations regarding the members of the team. He said he hoped the Boar<] of Control would hold an inquiry, which "boiilcl be a. public one, and go fully into the charges. Failing that, he says he will, make a full statement.

(Received Last Night, 9.20 o'clock.) MELBOURNE, December !> ; The Board of Control lias appointed 'a. su'i-conimittee to inquire into the charges against certain members of thiJ ieam. The Boa I'd asked Mr-Crouch, to supplement- the report he presented at the annual meeting, and on the strength of this supplementary report it was decided to investigate the matter thoroughly. Mr Crouch's complaints against certain members of the team are said to be definite, and it is understood they will be substantiated by the statutory declarations of other.members. Th? suh-connnittee held a meeting in private, and decided to obtain the statement-si of the players. ' - ■ • It is probable that a special meeting of the Board will be held later to deal with the matter.
