NEW SOUTH WALES TOURNAMENT.
WON BY BRITAIN
(Received Last Night. 9.5 o'clock.) SYDNEY. December 9. The Now South Wales Tennis Tournament was concluded to-day in bright hot weather. In tlio Doubles Ilice ;,nd E. L. Jones t(N.S.W.) heat Parke and Lowe (Brltain) (5 —8, H—3, 6--I ; Dixon and ' Beamish (Britain) heat Rico and E. L. [Jones 9 —7, G —-1. The play was again full of interest, although the winners of the tournament were already decided. Jones played confidently and cleverly.. Dixon was very safe .and heady, placing side shots admirably. j The final results were: Britain, G rubber?. 13 sets, 123 games; N.S.W., '2 rubbers, 8 sets, 112 frames. ' Speaking at a dinner afterwards, Mr Colqiihoun, president of the New South "Wales Tennis Association, said tho rules for international' tennis should he revised. The question of tbe venue- of the'Davis Cup contest was one of the most difficult. The suggestion that it should. l>o played alternately in different countries was a good one. I Mr Dixon, captain of the British ' team, declared that Alfred Jones (New So;nh Wales) played magnificently, and would bo a. worthy successor to Norman Brookes.
