THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
It is understood that thirteen or fourteen members of the Legislative Council will be retiring next month, owing to the expiry of their : term. It will .be. the duty of the to make appoint<mentfs to the vacant sitions, and in the performance of this duty it will require to consider locality a 9 well as fitness. \ln this connection we submit the claims of the Wairarapa to consideration. This important district has for many years been, without representation in the Legislative Council. It has* a dulation of about 30,000, and a variety of resource which few other provinces can claim. There are public men in the Wairarapa who are eminently fitted for the position, and we look to Mr Massey to make at | least one appointment from among them. .
