MR J. W. POYNTON.
.Mr J. \V. Poynton, Secretary to tho 1 reasury. and a member of the Stato Advances JSuard, is resigning his poMliou. and will ictiirn to tho Magistracy, filling tho vacancy at Palmer"ston North, caused by the appointment of Mr A. I). Thompson to the Civil Service Board. Since the report of tho Commission on the Ad-vfinco'-i Hoard was brought down, it iifn been persistently reported that the Government intended retiring Mr Poynton. It will come as a shock to those who were looking for an opportunity for assailing the Government, to know that the retirement of Mr Poynton was quite voluntary, and that his appointment to the Magistracy is of .his own seeking. It is satisfactory to know that tho services of Mr Poynton, who has proved himself an able, painstaking and conscientious Magistrate, aro not to be lost to the Public Service of the Dominion.
