The Wairarapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Board decided yesterday to repudiate a demand from the Wellington Board for the of £43 for tho maintenance of a Wairarapa patient in the Wellington Hospital'. Tlie Wairarann Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard held its first sittings in the new offices at Masterton yesterday. In his . report to the Wairtrapa Hospital and Charitable Aid Hcvni} yesterday, Inspector Cairns, of Masterton, stated that nothing nad taken place calling for special report, until the latter end of November, when a mild! outbreak of scarlet fever occurred in the Borough, but having been attended to promptly, there u*».--little danger of further infeecion. The cause of tho outbreak was saic. to bo ignorance on the part of one family. A child, with its guardian, had been on a visit to Hastings, and shortly after their return the child became ill. No medical assistance was sought, the result being that two other members of the same family contracted the infection. The ilrild was then removed to another parr of the Borough, and within three Jays the infection had spread to •••x-jor-sons. It was then that the fluid was found to be the cause_of infection. In each case the patients were removed to tho fever hospital, and a rhoro'.-gh disinfection carried out.
