STATEMENT BY MR FISHER

The Hon. A. Fisher, Prime Minister r.f the Commonwealth, referring to Norfolk Island, said: "We shall probably take it; but it will bo as a duty, not as a good thing. The Imperial Governme.'it is not keen, as far as f
know, either to retain or part with it. Tho Commonwealth lias enough to do at homo, but must faro its duties in the Pacific. Tdo not favour special efforts to extend the Commonwealth control in the Pacific; but Australia does not desire other people fn hj« crowding her in the Paoifi". That would he no joke."
