THE WAIHI STRIKE

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Mr J. Glover, secretary of the Federation of Labour, received'on Saturday a telegram from the officials of th» organisation in Auckland, announcin.-v that the Waihi strike 'had been, declnred off. The strike was first declared on 15th May.
'MEN ANXIOUS TO RETURN. AUCKLAND, Last XijihV. Mr Rhodes, manager of "die Waihi Company.>when interviewed yesterday, said, he had been officially infoimed that the strike was off. He mentioned that a list of about four hundred workers, willing .to retuivi to Waihi, had "been handed to the mining companies. It Avould, he said, be certainly impossible to find work lor them all, or even one half, dming the remainder of the year, nor un J ;il th« water was pumped out, but the Waihi Company had' made a promise to giv.-i preference during the next ten days to married men with homes ; u Waihi, the company, of course being free to choose from the' list those married men deemed to be most suitable for the company's requirements.
