THE LATE MR McGREGOR.
Jt is wit'J) profound regret that we record tho death this morning of one of the oldest and best-respected settlers of the Wairarapa district, in the person of Mr Duncan McGregor, senr. The deceased played an important part in the pioneer work of the district, and had been identified with almost every movement that made for tho general prosperity. As Mayor of the town, Borough Councillor. County Councillor, and member of various other local bodies he rendered conspicuous service to tho northern portion of the Wairarapa. A man of intellectuality above the average of immense enthusiasm' in all his undertakings of the" utmost integrity and probity of character, he was a settler who wag respected by all who knew him. His noblo character illuminated his surroundings even in his last hours, and he has passed over tho great Divide mourned by hundreds and leaving a memory which will lie honoured by future generations for the sterling wort}) of an exemplary citizen and a model* settler.
