ANNUAL GATHERLXG
The thirty-seventh annual Highland gathering and sports meeting of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society, will be held on New Year's Day on the Masterton Public Park. Thi s meeting is considered by all followers of sport to be the largest of its kind in the Dominion, and is looked forward to witli interest by all loading professional and amateur athletes. The most popular part of the programme will be the piping and dancing events, the prizes for which have been greatly increased. The athletic part of .the programme caters for all classes of athletes including cycling, running, jumping, wrestling and numerous field events. Hie open .running events are headed by the Caledonian Handicap, 300 yards, the aggregate prizes for which are £l2 10s. This race should prove very interesting, as the pick of the professional sprinters are likely to compete. Amateur runners have received special attention from the programme committee, and valuable trophies will be competed for in each event. The most attractive event in this section is the 300 Yards Bracelet Handicap, the winner of which will receive a gold bracelet, valued at four guineas. The full amount of tho, prize-list offered is over £3OO, and the support the Caledonian. Society are bound to receive should compensate the committee for their liberality. I Entries For- all handicap events close I with the energetic secretary of the ' Society, Mr W. Gillespie, on Thursday, December 12th, at 9 p.m. and handicaps will be declared several days later.
