A wedding oF interest to South wnirnrapn folk took nlnce at th« Ulothrcldst Church, Lower- Hurt, 'on Juesday afternoon, when Miss Olive Tilhvood. daughter of Mr and Mrs Tho.s. Tilhvood. of Carterton. was married to Mr William Chalmers, son ef Mr D. Chalmers, of Oamaru. The oeremony was performed by the Rev. B- H. Ginger,'at one time Methodist minister of the South Wairarapa Methodist Circuit, and mow of Wood 1 - jvillo. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr F. Tillwood, wore a cream costume and sage blue hat, with white tips. She carried a, shower bouquet of cream roses. Miss N. Pinhev. of Wellington, attended as j -bridesmaid, dressed in a frock of cream; with a black hat, and carried a dainty bouquet of red roses Mr R. Crawley, of Carterton, was" best man. At the conclusion of the ceremony an adjournment was made ; to tfie Haselmero Tea Rooms, where a large number of-guests were entertained, and the usual toasts dulv honoured. Later the newly wedded couple Jeft for the Xorth, the bride's travelling dress being a navy blue tailor-made costume, with hat to match. Mr and Mrs Chalmers will Take up their residence in Featherston.
Heavy rain fell here shortly' after noon yesterday, and completely spoilt the afternoon, which being tlie halfholiday is usually devoted to sport. Shearers are complaining in ' verv ungenia! terms over the weather elements ; many having only pot in about six days d.liring the last three weeks. The local Borough Council staff is at present engaged tarring and sanding the roads and footnaths in different parts of the town.
The hotly of the Into Mr W. Enroll who was drowned in the Ruamahanga River, at Pnpauai, on Tuesday, was fVxind on Thursday morning hv Mr Coppland and a party, who wore out in a boat searching for it. The body was found on an island about two miles below where the fatality occurred. Tim horse got out safelv on the same side oT the river that ' it went in.
