Alter tho lids had been secured witli iron bands and sealed, several cases containing gold for Alexandria were taken in a van to St Catherine's Dock, and placed aboard a steamer sailing for Bremen. Between Bremen, and Trieste there were four changes of trains.
W hen the consignment was received at Alexandria, tho contents of two of the cases rattled. Lloyd's agent was summoned, and the cases, when opened, were found to contain lefid of an exactly equivalent v,-eight to the gold. Ihe police believe that tho thoft was committed between Bremen and Trieste, when the gold was in char go of the German postal authorities. The frequent changes of railway guards would facilitate tho theft.
The loss will fall upon Lloyds
