The Rev H. Watson and Mrs Watson arrived at Wellington by the Warrimoo from Sydney yesterday. They should reach Master ton by the mid-day train to-day.

Councillor Joseph Dawson was reelected Chairman of the Eketahunn County Council; Cr. H. Cornelius Chairman of the Pahiatua County Council; and Mr H. Nelson of the Woodvillo County Council.

Mr D, 0. Sustins, local postmafiter at Carterton, leaves to-day on a thrcp weeks' vacation, which he will spend in the Auckland district. Ho will also probably visit. Waihi. During his absence, his place will be taken by Mr A. I']. Braithwaite.

McKe.nna (Pahiatua) and Walsh (Lower Hutt). Air J. 15. Reid has resigned his position as a director of the Bank of New Zealand, and Mr Harold Beauchamp lias been appointed, in his stead. It is probable that Mr Beauchamn will be made Chairman of the Board of Directors, as Mr Martin Kennedy, the present Chairman, is shortly to leave on a visit to the Old Countrv.

* Still another pioneer settler of Taranaki passed away at Ingle wood on Saturday, in the person of Mrs Mary Harrison, relict of the late Thomas Harrison. The deceased lady, who was 88 years of age, came out with her parents Mr and Mrs John Perry, in the Amelia Thompson, arriving on .September 3, 3841. Her husband was a passenger by the William Bryan, which arrived on March 31, 1841. For many years they were settled, in the Omata district. Councillor W. J. Welch was yesterday re-elected Chairman of tho Masterton County Council. In moving his re-election. Cr. Toog;ood stated that Cr. Welch had done full justice to himself and the Council as n body. In acknowledging tho compliment paid: him, Cr. Welch stated that he had

now occupied the chair for three years. He was of opinion that the position should go round. At the same time, as it appeared to be tho wish of the Council he would have pleasure . in filling the office for another year. He thanked Councillors for tho generous support accorded him during the past vear.

A Nelson telegram states that the Hon. H. D. Bell, Minister of Internal Affairs, arrived there yesterday, and in tho afternoon performed the ceremony of opening the new buildings erected for the Nelson Institute Library and museum, in the presence of a largo gathering. Mr Bell is staying in Nelson for a few days, and will look into various local matters.
